Mixing old school thrash with gore ridden lyrics has always been Impaled's game. "Death After Life" could be laughed off as a bad joke with it's muddy production and over the top "B-Movie Horror" intros but the music itself is far from a laughing matter. Anyone into this style of metal knows Impaled sound eerily similar to the now legendary Carcass. I assume they feel responsible for carrying the torch and are very worthy of the task. Ripping rhythms make way for some adventurous soloing and at times I felt like it actually was Carcass frontman Jeff Walker growling into the mic again. When this gore fest was over I was left somewhat satisfied. Musically, the members of Impaled are obviously well schooled but the horrible "mad-slasher" topics just makes the whole thing a joke to me. If you don't care about stupid lyrics and shitty production yet enjoy competent, well executed thrash you should look into "Death After Life".
