Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

I had not heard of this band before and wasn’t really looking forward to them as the opening band at a Ministry concert since I found out it wasn’t ‘My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult’. BAsically, I went in with a distaste for whoever took over their spot on the line up. When I saw them, my mind set changed completely, and was blown away. The band was amazing and truly talented. The lead singer had an amazing look and an hell of a voice. Never have I heard an industrial band that looked as good as these band mates did. They were well put together and sounded great together.

The song that made me see the true gifts they carry was ‘Disko Fire Scheiss Messiah’. It's amazing live but even more amazing on the disk itself. Never have I heard a song sound so well versed both live and on disk, usually it’s the other way round--sounds good live or on disk not both. I am not totally sure of the lyrics since I do not speak German or Greek, but the guitar work is truly amazing, so is the bass on the piece.

‘Tenth Circle’ is a great industrial track which leads a double life, its rock and heavy but leans more towards industrial. It has an eerie sound at the beginning but when you get into it’s a deeper rock sound in it.

All together this is a great album from a group that has an amazing stage presence and an amazing sound. Whether they are live or on disk they have amazing talents. You can find Hanzel and Gretyl on Metropolis records. You can locate them on the net through www.hanzelandgretyl.com
