Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

9/14/2017 - Review by: Greg Watson
A triumphant release by one of the pioneers of avant garde black metal
'Inquietum' is the result of 10 years of work that makes up this album which is actually comprised of 4 EP's. First and foremost that if you are looking for 'Min Tid Skal Komme' era Fleurety, this isn't it. If you are hoping for them to return to their avant garde styling in general however, you are definitely in the right place.

The eight tracks that make up 'Inquietum' are a wondrous mix of black metal and the weird, bizarre musical stylings that fans of Fleurety have come to expect. There are jazz elements, pop music elements and so many other styles present that just really hit you from every angle. I was very nervous about listening to this one as I was unsure what to expect from this release from a band that I am extremely fond of. And after several listens, I am very pleased with what the band has done. You can hear a definite evolution from 2000's 'Department of Apocalyptic Affairs' and it seems as though the band is really focused on rediscovering themselves.

Reviewing music of this magnitude and depth is no easy task and if I were to attempt to try and cover each song, this review would just be ridiculously long. So that being said, just know that if you are a fan of Fleurety, regardless of the era of the band, you need to go out and listen to this one at least once. While it isn't wholly black metal throughout, there is something for their fans on this album and I for one am thoroughly pleased with the result of the work the band has done to give us 'Inquietum'. This one is definitely on my Album of the Year list and is one that will defintely remain in heavy rotation for years to come.
