It Is Dead
A Place Of Darkness
9/17/2021 - Review by: David Loveless
Blackened Doom with dark ritualistic undertones
Self-described as Crypt Sludge, this Wisconsin-based one-man band summons the terror of Sunn O))) and adds layers of ritualistic demeanor to create a darkened, doom-charged nightmare.
With droning guitar riffs, blasphemous vocals and a serious incantation for eerie awareness, 'A Place Of Darkness' showcases two brilliant tracks of ominous proportions. The ceremonial production effort creates a bleak atmosphere on EP opener, "Angels With Filth Souls". Sinister chanting is backed by distorted but somber riffs that conjure a depth of blackness that penetrates the soul with damning results. The vokills are equipped with abhorrent reverberations, setting a dissonant tone that summons pure evil at will. "A Place Of Darkness" is a slow builder that wreaks havoc on the senses as the melancholic riffing delivers a dismal performance.
This EP is a great introduction to the band and will leave you wanting more, as heinous desperation for evil incantations fulfills an anxious void. This is top-level blackness that shouldn't be avoided.
