Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

  • Shredhead are a new band that I've just been introduced to. The band formed in Israel in late 2009. "Death Is Righteous" is the band's second album, the follow up to 2011's acclaimed debut "Human Nature". I have not had a chance to check out the first album but I can tell you this, if "Death Is Righteous" is any indication, I'm going to be seeking that one out as soon as I have some free space on my music drive.

Packing a punch that would make Mike Tyson cry like a baby, Shredhead deliver a modern thrash album packed with groove, aggression and enough testosterone to supply sports locker rooms for life. "Devils Race" kicks the album off with a Pantera style groove and Anselmo and Chuck Billy styled vocals. My jaw was on the floor the second this track kicked in and even more so when it hit the chorus. The somewhat cleanly sung chorus just sent goosebumps down my arms. The song is just a blazing arc of fire. The solo will rip your face off and pour salt in your open wound just for fun. Hard to follow that up right? Think again oh ye bangers of heads. "LPBZ" is up next and it has a German thrash feel to it, which coincidentally is where the band has relocated to. The gallop and pacing of the riffs remind me a lot of Accept with some serious speed added in. Add in some very gruff vocals with a bit of a guttural undertone and this song could easily have been the opener for this album. The trend continues throughout "Death Is Righteous" where each song is unique and heavy and just kicks total ass.

The production on the album follows modern thrash bands in that you want the bass and the drums fattened up and made more prevalent while still maintaining the guitar tone and the clarity of the vocals. With a style that incorporates the best of Bay Area Thrash with more modern thrash sounds and then taking those things and putting their own sick twist on it, Shredhead delivers an album that will straight rock your eff-ing skull. I haven't listened to an album where I've almost given myself whiplash in I can't remember how long, so headbang with caution.

Shreadhead clearly believes that "Death Is Righteous". Well, I believe that Shredhead is a legit dark horse in the metal world. When this band breaks, and trust me they will, make sure you are riding that wave lest you be swallowed up in the maelstrom and spun into oblivion.
