Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Sweden's brand of heavy metal fire is forged again, this time with headhunters Cryonic Temple riding out and riding forth, this time in full battle mode with a raging speedfest entitled "In Thy Power". Limb Music continues to be the leader in quality, flashy Euro metal and Cryonic Temple is one of the bands who has helped push Limb into the mainstream community. With their 2003 release "Blood, Guts, & Glory", these power metal newcomers established a global relationship with headbangers, seeing domestic release through giant SPV as well as hitting all of the smaller markets through Limb. With bands like Rising Faith, Black Majesty, and Dungeon in tow this Euro label has managed to succeed with a glossy roster of power metal warriors.

"In Thy Power" is going to appeal to just about every power metal fan out there, but I really don't think it has enough depth to branch off and pick up any new listeners. Most power metal fans have heard this band and many will pick this record up. But for the most part this isn't the type of record to break down any walls or shake any foundations. There is a core audience that this caters to and the band puts all of the right touches on this record to please that particular audience. It works well and the end result is a riveting exercise in Teutonic power metal, sort of like a fine cross between Hammerfall and Grave Digger.

Favorite cuts for me are the galloping opener "When Hell Freezes Over", the catchy quick paced "Travellers In Time", and the Scorpions undertone of "Wolfcry".
