Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Wow, talk about an addictive work horse, Clawfinger are laying down the law and really showing off an abrasive yet textured stompbox of attitude and ethics. It is hard to believe that these Swedes have been around for close to twenty years and this is the first I've heard of the band. "Hate Yourself With Style" is the band's newest release on Nuclear Blast, an explosive, moody record that really incorporates pop elements with a rapcore presentation. While being extremely aggressive and edgy the band still work in some catchy pop oriented elements that make this type of record surprisingly easy on the ears. With this full length the group break down some big block groove orientated tracks that really stomp with some down tuned, factory styled guitar rumblings that are backed by an almost spoken demeanor with the all important "catchy" chorus part. I'm reminded of bands like Crack Up and Dearly Beheaded from the '90s while still clearly remembering the rapcore movement of a few years ago. If only this release had come out in 2000...well these former hospital orderlies may still be tucked away in a corner of the Playboy mansion. With that being said I give much respect and attention to the band for pulling this sort of thing off in grand style, really going against the grain and doing what they want to do, even if it means reiterating a sound that died out six years ago.
