Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Just imagine if Dark Moor and Nightwish forged together, then add a world of fantasy (Blind Guardian comes to mind in that department) and then you would have Fairyland. Do I have your attention yet?

I have figured out what metal needs more of--female vocalists that have the talent and ability to play with the big boys. Gracing us with their presence and talent are Kimberly Goss (Sinergy/Dimmu Borgir), Doro Pesch (Warlock/Doro), Tarja Turunen (Nightwish), as well as others. However, the lady that has taken the world by storm is none other than the Spanish talent of Elisa C. Martin (formerly of Dark Moor), vocalist of this melodic wonder.

The French group, founded by Willdric Lievin (Drums), has gone through a few name changes (Fantasy and Fantasia) but one solid line up featuring Elisa C.Martin: Vocals, Philippe Giordana: Keyboards, choirs, Willdric Lievin: Drums, rhythm guitars, bass, choirs, Anthony Parker: Guitars

Starting out with a Lord of the Rings type fantasy feel in the chants mixed with the Christmas classic “We Three Kings”. Fairyland keeps it coming strong with tracks like “Doryan The Enlightened”, “Dark Omen”, and the very symphonic “Rebirth”, that just explode with a full sound.

I would rate this as one of my new favorites. You must own this! Elisa’s voice is incredible, and the musicianship is outstanding. Expect great things to follow. If you like Dark Moor, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Rhapsody, or other symphonic power metal bands, listen to Fairyland. This is an impressive release. Check out Dark Moor-The Hall of Olden Dreams, Dark Moor-Gates of Oblivion, and Dreamaker-Human Device for more great sounds of Elisa Martin.

Extra: the group’s demo was entitled "Realm of Wonders", and did not feature Elisa.
