Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

The German hard rock legends have returned!

After a long stint away from the metal spotlight, seasoned hard rock veterans Victory have made a triumphant return back. Thats right, "Instinct" marks the first Victory album in 7 years and the first Victory release to feature the original lineup since 1988.

Founding members Charlie Huhn, Tommy Newton, Herman Frank, Peter Knorn, and Fritz Randow have lit the metal torch once again, delivering a solid album of top tier metal driven hard rock with "Instinct". During the band's absence, its members have been keeping busy with their own agendas. Huhn has spent some time with rock legends Foghat, Randow has been holding the sticks for Saxon and Sinner, Frank has produced many albums including his own band Moon Doc, and Tommy Newton has produced a majority of the European hard rock releases of late.

This new album is just another classic Victory release featuring all of the band's traits we've grown to love. Huhn can still wail with the best of them, and the combo of Frank and Newton on guitar is heavenly. This album really has plenty to offer, from party rockers like "Another Notch In The Bedpost" and "Victoria's Secrets" to scorching battle cries like "Nomads Of The Night". Power metal fans will eat up "Running Scared" while modern rock listeners will enjoy the sounds of "Starman". "Enemy" is probaby the heaviest Victory song of their catalogue, bringing a bit of evil to this German rock sound. This is just a brilliant album all the way through and fans of every metal genre should enjoy it.

"Instinct" is a fully charged, high octane ride chocked full of intensity and hard rock passion. The wait was well worth it and hopefully this record will prove to be more than just a reunion album.
