Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Hate has crafted one of the years best metal albums!
Polish blackened death metal act, Hate, have returned with their eleventh full-length album titles, 'Auric Gates of Veles'.

Over the past couple of albums, they shed a lot of their technical death metal style in favor of melodic black metal riffing. Although, I love their earlier death metal albums, their newer style proves very affective and even rivals their Polish counterparts, Behemoth. In way's I believe they're even better than the aforementioned band because the music is more aggressive, the songwriting is more interesting, and the vocals are some of the best in the genre. Songs such as "Seventh Manvantara", "The Volga's Veins", & "Generation Sulphur" are perfect examples as to why this is the case.

For me, Hate has crafted one of the years best metal albums! From start to finish, 'Auric Gates of Veles' is an amazing piece of work and will surely impress metal fans around the world. Even though Hate has been releasing albums since the mid 90's, they've failed to gain the recognition that they deserver--mainly due to the rise of such bands as Decapitated, Vader, and Behemoth. However, based on their past few releases, I feel their time is now.

Show your support for this amazing band and listen to this masterpiece as soon as possible!
