The End of All Lies
3/17/2016 - Review by: Eric Compton
It's easy to write off 'The End of All Lies' as just another cookie-cutter metalcore formula. The first two tracks of the album are familiar staccato riffs, double bass and an underlying melody that we've heard a hundred times over by the likes of Unearth, Killswitch and All that Remains (who just got it from the Swedes a decade late). Yet when 'Achtung' hits the center of the album, the chemistry of the album changes up considerably. The rumbling Pantera guitar tone introduces potent gang choruses and a hard hitting battery that marches into an atmospheric “We are Many” breakdown at the three minute mark. 'Darkness' has a really fun Alestorm spark to it while the album closes with two stylistic cuts in 'Einherjer' and the manic 'Rain of Ash'.
