Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

HOLY SHIT!!!

This is one of the best new metal bands that I have heard in quite some time. This is easily one of the finest slabs of molten metal I have heard this year. This debut record from Dirty Power is just awe-inspiring. Plenty of "good old fashioned hard-rock attitude", mixed with crushing vintage doom courtesy of Sabbath and Cathedral. One can almost say this is like Jackyl (in attitude) mixed with Sabbath (doomy doomy doomy!), with a slight touch of the last Anthrax album.

Songs like LSD, Symptom Of The Unitard, and Penny Eyes are overwhelming, complete with intricate twin guitar duels and tons of bottom heavy guitar, just walloping the listener with doom overkill. Check out the killer leads in Dirty Power and Luke's Wallpaper, just absolutely captivating!! I just love this band! I have no clue where they came from, but they have stormed the metal universe, taking over a brand of metal that has been rather dull of late.

You won't find any swords and sorcery power metal here. No silly alternative 3-chord riffs. No phony black metalers holding cell phones, or death metal induced vomit. This is just pure working man's metal....plenty of alcohol and gasoline fury, and a rock bottom guitar frenzy that deserves recognition. Please check this band out! This is what is missing from metal!
