Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

While EXITIUM certain do not bring anything new and exciting to the fine world of political grindcore, they certain deliver a decent rehashment of standard protocol.

I have to admit to being partially interested due to the band's liberal political leanings. However, this is not your garden variety treehugging. These brash Oklahomans must've ended up with a lot of dust and sand where the sun refuses to shine because they are pissed! This type of music is pretty much no-frills, but why flower up something so lethal? The vocal attack is just sick and brutal, and the riffs at times establish some thrashy doses when not pummeling you with the death/grind flavoring.

If you dig NASUM, give EXITIUM your attention. I would very much like to see this band live because this style usually translates better within a live setting. I imagine they would inspire a brutal pit chock full of bloody fists and bruised bodies, unlike most of these newer bands that inspire their fans to work on their shadow-kung fu sparring techniques. Hail EXITIUM!
