Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Many are under the impression that 80's bands like Crue, Quiet Riot, Poison and Cinderella were the original glam bands, but they owe a debt of gratitude to mid-70's bands like Slade and Sweet who supplied the glamour counterpoint to the shock horror fun of KISS and Alice Cooper. Sweet had a string of big-selling, pop-rock singles reaching their peak with the million selling album 'Desolation Boulevard'. By the turn of the 80's, the band dropped off the scene, but if you wanted melodic rock full of catchy hooks, you couldn't go wrong with them. Europe has already has a revival of this style during the 90's.

RIVEL RECORDS has now put out THE SWEET ACCORDING TO SWEDEN with classics performed by members & ex. members of KISS, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, THUNDER, HUGHES & TURNER PROJECT, EUROPE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN BAND, JEFF SCOTT SOTO, AT VANCE, CANDLEMASS, TALISMAN, LIONīS SHARE, NARNIA, RADIOACTIVE & MANY MORE GREAT ARTISTS FROM SWEDEN.

Christian Rivel did note that he wanted to showcase more than just the most well-known songs from the band and most of the numbers stay pretty close to the originals with a few taking a heavier approach on guitar. Those heavier numbers with touches of stoner riffing just didn't quite do it for me. To me, the band sounded best with the catchier numbers that stick in your head for days, so I have to personally take points off for the noticable missing big hits--"Little Willy", "Ballroom Blitz" and "Fox on the Run", the much covered "Set Me Free", and a personal favorite of mine--"A.C.D.C.". Done really well are the Christian Rivel and Jeff Scott Soto duet track "Love Is Like Oxygen" and "Sweet F.A" (featuring Bruce Kulick on guitar) and '"The Sixteens".
