Zero Down - Old Time Revival - 2005 - Self Released
Come on in ladies and gentlemen, have a seat,
open up your hymnals, and let's have an
OLD TIME REVIVAL!! Take off the Sunday suit, grab a swig or two, and light up the electric
church with Seattle's Zero Down, a charismatic, energetic, lightning bolt in a bottle who
have released their scorching new album in "Old Time Revival". No need for suits
and ties or fancy record execs here, Zero Down unleashing this mammoth beast on their own
dime, proving that great records can indeed come from the true underground. With "Old
Time Revival", shades of blue collar sweat and tears drop on the canvas stretched out
by the likes of Anthrax, Motorhead, C.O.C, The Accused, and just about any combo there
after of raw punk spirit injected into a heavy metal pipeline. This is raw power, raw
intensity, raw talent, and the most wicked sensation to come out of the underground
since....well.....
The band was formed in 2002 with main members Lenny Burnett (Lead Pipe Cinch) and Mark
"Hawk" Hawkinson (Dumt), whose direct goal was to cross punk roots with the awe
inspiring riffing of NWOBHM. In 2003 the band released their debut album entitled
"Pound For Pound", which received favorable press from .coms like Metal Rules,
Cutting Edge, and Punk United. Moving to 2005, the band aligned with famed producer
Martin"The Sweet Wizard" Feveyear (Screaming Trees, Qotsa, Grunt Truck, Amber
Pacific) to record "Old Time Revival". Feveryear understood the sound needed for
Zero Down to deliver their '70s, '80s, and modern soundscape visions to today's listeners.
The production here is gritty, capturing the sweaty, grizzled attitude of a punk band, but
still allowing plenty of loud and proud moments to stun even the most truest of power rock
warriors.
From the barn burning opener "In The Name Of Satan We Rock" to the last
gutwrenching, turn of the screw in "Rock N Roll Kidz", Zero Down turns the tide
on their moniker, showing this hero is no zero with blazing tunes that both rock out and
pulverize with heartfelt intensity. This is a natural talent, a natural high, and all
compassing mammoth rock record that defies all the odds and delivers quite possibly one of
the best records ever put to tape, reel, vinyl, wax, disc, you name it, or you bought it.
Rock and roll warriors true to form, fronting the war trenched lines with memorable hooks,
dazzling melody, a seventies rock sensibility, and a showcase of blue collar hard work and
perseverance.
Fans of Anthrax's John Bush will find favor with vocalist Hawk. The down and dirty side of
New Wave is brought to the forefront with tongue in cheek fondness with "In The Name
Of Satan We Rock" and "Rock N Roll Kidz". The legendary stoner rock groups
like Corrosion Of Conformity and Clutch can turn and face the future on steamrollers like
"Two Ton Hammer" and "Kick It Down". Both Burnett and Fred Speakman
combine on some flashy leads and solos, all neatly introduced by some fabulous twin guitar
work.
Fans of California's Dirty Power or sub-genre bands like Life After Death and Danko Jones
will absolutely love Zero Down. If you have remotely enjoyed songs from the likes of
AC/DC, Motorhead, Thin Lizzy, KISS, The Accused, Judas Priest, or even Iron Maiden, then
please, I beg of you, check these ROCK GODS out. This is one for the ages boys and girls.
This spells C-L-A-S-S-I-C.
