PRIEST IS BACK
---------------
Well, the big news is that Rob Halford has rejoined with Judas Priest. The originators of
power metal are back to try and conquer the world again. The world is very different than
in 1976, though. I'm not doing sommersaults over the whole thing, but I do think it's cool
to see them together again. I would hope that they actually try to make some good music
instead of just looking for the more lucrative contracts that will come from being back
together.
30 f'n years for Judas priest...should be interesting in the old age homes when
headbangers retire from life.
The current set list has changed a bit from before, now that Rob is out of the closet:
"Turbo Lover"
"Loving After Midnight"
"Asskiller"
"Victim of HIV"
"Metal Lisp"
"Excitehim"
"Stained Ass"
"Unleashed From My Pants"
"Defenders of the Fist"
"You've Got A Knobby Thing Comin"
"Breaking the Sodomy Law"
"Hell Bent For A Rest Area"
"Screaming for Vaseline"
Encore:
"I Am Woman"
"It's Raining Men"

BRUCE DISSES METALLICA?
------------------------
Maiden and Metallica have some fairly similar backgrounds. Both were highly influential in
new styles of metal (NWOBHM/Power and Thrash). Both had a set of CDs that were not fan
favorites (Load/Reload and Virtual XI/The X-Factor). Both are on an upswing in their
careers with new CDs and tours for the summer. Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson had some
Metallica fans on the D by appearently saying something like this:
"The album is not out yet, but please pull out our small digital recorders, MP3
players, cell phones or whatever you have. Put it on the Internet, spread it all over the
world. But on one condition: When you hear the new album, if you like it, pay the
equivalent of three beers to buy the record in the store. That is what keeps us alive. If
you don't like the album, just forget it," Dickinson said, and the crowd went wild.
"We are not like Metallica," he added.
In defense of Metallica, I don't recall them saying not to spread around any live bootleg
stuff. They shouldn't give a crap about that stuff unless they sounded really awful, which
they generally don't.
Note, that Bruce didn't say to download the new CD for free, oh, no. He gave his
endorsement to record the new stuff played live and spread it around the scene. If you
like the advance listen, he says, then go pay for the regular release.
Bruce is a well-know shit-talker. Take what he says lightly.
WAR ON FILE SHARING
---------------------
The RIAA is continuing its War on File Sharing. Recently, they won a lawsuit against 4
individuals and nailed each with a $12,000 fine. Going off track a little, one guy raised
all the money through donations to his website. Now, the victorious RIAA has the cajones
to say they want go after more home users.

Court in Washington this month" --Source:

Well, I don't know much about the demographics of the swappers, but I would guess that a
vast majority are under 18 years of age and suing them and their parents, who give money
to BUY the records in the first place, would be a public relations nightmare.
It'll go over like the War on Drugs, but they have to do it. They get paid to represent
interests and they want to keep their jobs. The head of the RIAA makes one million dollars
a year!
Here's what I would do:
Drop CD prices - If I can get Metallica's new CD with all the artwork and a DVD for $9.98
then why should Dio's 25 year old "Holy Diver" (Holy div-ahh!) be $16? End the
price-fixing, oligarcy already.
Offer a swapping program with a great price - Apple's new system is supposed to be easy to
use, but .99 a song is still too much. Since, they cut down on all the middle man costs it
could be less.
Stop threatening the little guys - I can sympathize with going after people that set up
thousands of songs to trade, but not the people who are looking for the dozen songs from
their lost youth and want to sing "Livin On A Prayer" and "Home, Sweet,
Home" again, or just want to upgrade some music from cassette to computer. It's like
arresting a guy for going 3 miles over the speed limit.
Tax blank CDs - They did it with tapes. They might do it now; I don't know.
Stop using derogatory comments towards the traders - In an age where many medias (music,
books, movies, games, etc.) are competing for consumer dolars, people are probably
listening to more music and are recommending bands to friends. It doesn't help to call
everyone thieves and pirates.
WAR ON FILE SHARING II
-----------------------
"The Conyers-Berman bill would operate under the assumption that each copyrighted
work made available through a computer network was copied by others at least 10 times for
a total retail value of $2,500. That would bump the activity from a misdemeanor to a
felony, carrying a sentence of up to five years in jail.
Sponsored by California Rep. Howard Berman (62) and Michigan Rep. John Conyers (74), the
bill would make it easier to slap criminal charges on Internet users who copy music,
movies and other copyrighted files over "peer-to-peer" networks."
Bullshit...bullshit...bullshit. A bill like this would never pass and the reps who signed
it know it or they're fuckin dumb. Really, they probably proposed it to appease those who
gave them $$$. Let's take a look at something (source Government Information Awareness):
Howard Berman's Contributors:
» Walt Disney Co (DIS) $32,000.00
» AOL Time Warner (AOL) $30,050.00
» Vivendi Universal (V) $27,341.00
» Viacom Inc (VIA) $15,000.00
» Sony Corporation (SNE)
His #1 Industry Support:
» TV / Movies / Music $204,291.00
John Conyor's Contributors:
» AOL Time Warner (AOL) $9,000.00
» Walt Disney Co (DIS) $6,000.00
» Comcast Corp (CMCSA) $5,000.00
» Viacom Inc (VIA) $5,000.00
His #2 Industry Support:
» TV / Movies / Music $48,609.00
So, they both get plenty of cash from the media industy and they support a hardcore bill
on copyright violators. <churchlady> Well, isn't that just...convenient.

RANDOM THOUGHTS
----------------
--The reviews for St Anger weren't that great, but I'm seeing plenty of concert reviews
saying Metallica is blowing the others off the stage. Course, they are playing mostly
old-school.
--I look for Stripperella to flop. Y'know, she can cut glass with her nipples. What can
she do with her taco? Geez, can you get anymore dumb?
--Funniest thing I've read all week was this comment about Fred Durst boning Brittney

Someone tell Fag D that strokin' his joke to a Pepsi commercial does NOT mean you nailed
Brit.
